Pioneer Railways
This paper was read before the Sydney University Engineering Society on 10th Nov, 1897 by engineer J.W. Roberts. It was subsequently published in the “Journal and abstract of proceedings of the Sydney University Engineering Society, vol II, 1897. This was way before the Oberon line was constructed in the 1920s, but already Pioneer Line “standards” were established in other parts of NSW. This paper contains details of these “standards” as to gauge, perway & rails, bridges & cuttings, stations, rolling stock and much more – including some scale diagrams. It appears to be one of the very few instances where such details have been published and as such is a useful guide to the Oberon line construction standards. Click here to view the paper.

8D81 Form
The designation 8D81 is an historic one for the Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway as this was the train that brought our two 73 Class diesel locos to Tarana on the 24th July, 2010. This is the official form that allowed the towing operation from Eveleigh to Tarana on that exciting day. Click here to see the form
